Hi, I’m Fien.
I was born hard of hearing in my left ear and deaf in my right ear. For a long time, I tried to make my hearing loss as invisible as possible. But that sometimes led to misunderstandings: people thought I was ignoring them, when in reality I simply hadn’t heard them.
While walking our dogs, I realised how useful visibility can sometimes be. Cyclists would ring their bells or call out when they wanted to pass, but I couldn’t hear them.
That led to one simple question:
What if I could make visible what others can’t see?
That’s how DEAFLY. began.
What started as a practical idea around visibility gradually grew into something bigger.
Because being visible doesn’t have to be only about safety. It can also be about recognition, identity, humour, or simply wearing something that makes you think: this feels like me.
Today, DEAFLY. creates different ways to make the invisible visible.
